A commercial rant
I've been seeing a lot of that US Marine doing the free-climb up the desert rocl formation.

I've been fascinated by the sport since seeing some of the breathtaking video in a National Geographic show some years back. I can't help but watch when I see it on the tube. And its not one of those NASCAR trances where I'm waiting for a wreck (or in this case, someone to fall.). It's just cool to see.

Except for this Marine. It kinda bugs me to see him go up that particular formation, because there's no easy way down.. Seriously, how is one supposed to free-climb straight down?

Is this the subliminal message we are sending to young Marine recruits? "Join the Marines! It's a long, hard, dangerous climb to nowhere, and once you get there, it's a fast fall to your certain death!"

The Few. The Proud. The Willing-to-risk-death-without-thinking-it-through.
